The Serious Games Arcade and Showcase at the International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) 2014 was bigger and better than ever. IMSH is the official conference of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). Over 350 people attended the arcade. Feedback from various stakeholders was overwhelmingly positive with feedback saying the Arcade and Showcase was one of the highlights of IMSH and that more time and space should be allocated to Serious Games and Virtual Environments.
The judging for the IMSH 2014 Serious Games Arcade/Showcase was led by Brett Talbot, MD of USC and TATRC. He was joined by Katie White, MD from the University of Iowa and Clinical Playground, Beth Bryant of Games For Health, and Gerald Stapleton, MS from UIC. This years winners included:
1st Place Student: Vibhu Dhawan, MD (University of Missouri) – Mobile Hand-washing Application
1st Place Faculty: Marjorie Zielke, PhD (University of Texas – Dallas) – SICKO, a Novel Gaming Platform to Teach Surgical Decision-Making
Runner Up Faculty – Lisa Shieh, PhD, MD (Stanford University) – SEPTRIS – Mobile Sepsis game
Runner Up Faculty – Dana Lin, MD (Stanford University) – SICKO Surgical Decision making game
Runner Up Faculty – Hallie Bensinger, DNP, APRN (University of Tennessee) – The Call Light Game
1st Place Start Up – Sara Voit, PhD, MSPH (Center for Affiliated Learning, Affiliates Risk Management Services, Inc.) – The ARMS PelvicSim
Runner Up Start Up – James Foster, MD (EM Gladiators LLC) – Resuscitation! Virtual Patient Simulator
1st Place Established Company – Ronald Gregory – Intergalactic Challenge of the Athlonauts
Runner Up Established Company – Edward Sims (Vcom3D) – STAT! Trauma Response Training
