We are admittedly overdue on this congratulations, but we want to take the opportunity to offer big congratulations to one of our favorite collaborators – Penny Ralston-Berg. Penny is a Penn State World Campus instructional designer known as a national leader in her field. She recently received an outstanding service award from one of the country’s leading distance education organizations.
She is the first recipient of the Outstanding Service in Postsecondary Instructional Design Award from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association, or UPCEA. She received the award at a conference on Feb. 5 in New Orleans.
Ralston-Berg and Dr. Eric B. Bauman, Clinical Playground’s founder and managing member have developed a successful and robust collaboration portfolio stretching over many years.
Dr. Bauman has this to say about Ralston-Berg:
“Penny is wonderfully talented and a cherished colleague and collaborator. I was delighted to hear the news that Penny had received this award based on her commitment to research, best practices, innovation or mentorship. Penny brings value to any project she works on. I’m grateful and delighted to have had many opportunities to work with Penny and look forward to our next project”
Penny was a contributor to Bauman’s textbook Game-based learning and simulation for nursing & healthcare. Since that early collaboration they have presented together at the Annual Conference on Distance Teaching & Learning hosted by the University of Wisconsin – Madison and authored four additional book chapters together, including the forthcoming chapter co-authored with colleague Dr. Gregory E. Gilbert titled Virtual simulations and game-based learning to promote learning and student engagement in Dr. Pamela P. Jeffries (3rd Ed.), Clinical Simulations in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation.
